Choosing the correct shoes
A question I am often asked is “What are the best shoes to buy?” This is a very difficult question to answer as it depends on your foot size, shape and the amount of time you spend on your feet.
It’s not unlike choosing tyres for your car! You wouldn’t put a set of bald tyres on your car so why would you put bad shoes on your feet.
Tip 1 – Get Measured
All footwear companies have slightly different shapes and sizes, so what might fit in one shoe brand may not fit in another. Be cautious about buying shoes online. If you ask me its better to shop local anyway …………….
Tip 2 – Never Break Shoes In
Again lets use the car analogy. You wouldn’t leave the garage with the mechanic advising you that it will be painful for the first week but after that it will be fine! So why do it with shoes – STOP breaking shoes in.
Tip 3 – Support
Most people have been wearing shoes since they have been about 2 years old so our feet have become accustomed to the support and not having it can cause problems and lead to poor foot bio-mechanics e.g fallen arches. You should change your shoes often – wearing the same type of shoe your foot will grow accustomed to that support or height so if you change your shoe regularly it will make the muscles of your feet work harder and improve bio-mechanics.
To quote my Nana – you should buy the best bed and best shoes you can afford – because if you’re not in one you’re in the other !!
